Marking Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the tragedy of 1947 is “not merely a part of history but an eternal anguish etched in our national consciousness.”

Observed annually on August 14, the day pays tribute to millions who lost their lives, homes, and livelihoods during the Partition of India.

In a post on X, CM Dhami wrote, “On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, we pay homage to all the departed souls who displayed patience and courage even in adverse circumstances. The line of communal division devastated countless families and wounded the soul of the nation. Deprived of their homes, livelihoods, and memories, millions endured the pain of displacement.”

A day earlier, ahead of India’s 79th Independence Day, Dhami led the Tiranga Yatra from Gandhi Park in Dehradun, joined by public representatives, youth, students, women, and children carrying the tricolour and chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram.”

The Chief Minister also launched the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, scheduled from August 13 to 15, and extended Independence Day greetings to the public. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag at the Red Fort in Delhi on Friday to mark the occasion.
